More Information

Cindy of Backyard City Homestead - https://backyardcityhomestead.com/ will be telling us all about Sauerkraut and walk us through how to make it at home!

Through her blog and community workshops, Cindy enjoys sharing her knowledge and practical experiences of living a homesteading lifestyle in the city. Homesteading is rooted in living a self-sufficient lifestyle and using available resources economically, including land and food resources.

Cabbage is a relatively inexpensive vegetable that grows well in our region and is widely available. Preserving cabbage by fermentation is an ancient and proven technique that is easier than you think to do. Sauerkraut contains Vitamins A, Bs, C and K, some minerals, fibre, lactic acid, and some live microbes. It lasts a long time in the fridge and learning how to make and use it can add more variety to your meal plans, making sauerkraut a wonderful winter food!
